Hungary's opposing parties to collaborate for Malina
Fidesz foreign affairs specialist Zsolt Németh and House foreign affairs committee chairman and Socialist deputy chairman Vilmos Szabó held a joint press briefing yesterday to pledge that Hungary will take action to help Nyitra-based ethnic Hungarian student Hedvig Malina.
Németh claimed that "a show trial is being prepared against Malina. Not only ethnic minority rights, but basic democratic principles are at stake in Slovakia. The Hungarian parties will consult on how to notify and involve the EP if necessary, to seek a fair settlement for Malina," he promised.
Szabó said "the two parties share a basic position, but nuances differ, as the Socialists do not call into question the Slovak rule of law, but consider Malina's a precedent case for democracy."
