Hungary's M3 motorway extended to Nyíregyháza
A new section of the M3 freeway between Görbeháza and Nyíregyháza opened on Friday. The highway links the Szabolcs-Szarmár-Bereg county, Hungary's most remote region, to the European motorway network.
The new section shortens the route from Budapest to Nyíregyháza to 226.7 kms. The first stretch of freeway between Budapest and Gyöngyös was completed in 1983 and this was extended to Füzesabony in 1998, before reaching Polgár in 2002 and Görbeháza in 2004.
The new 40-km-long stretch of road highway was constructed by Betonút Zrt. and cost Ft 79.9 billion (€312.6 million).
