Hungary's "green commando", the body regulating against environmental offences, levied fines totalling 280 million forints (EUR 1.04m) since the launch of focused action in May, the Environment Ministry told MTI on Tuesday.

The authority found more than 11,000 tonnes of illegal waste deposited nation-wide. The action will continue in the autumn, with the key aim of eliminating the illegal depository of vehicle wrecks in the country, the ministry said.
