On May 18, the Andrássy Kúria Hotel, located 5km from the village of Tokajalsó, opened the doors to the first vinotherapy spa and wellness center in Hungary, dovetailing Tokaj wine with beauty treatments and tourism.

The center offers spa treatments exploiting the therapeutic anti-aging qualities of green grapes, meaning guests can now eat, drink and wear Tokaj wine, in addition to enjoying the views of the vineyards.

"We are pleased to use our grapes, grape seeds and wines extracts in many of our spa treatments," said Krisztina Hamir, excitedly explaining the range treatments available in the 38-room hotel nested amidst the gentle slopes of this World Heritage site valley.

Vinotherapy facials start at Ft 7,500 (€30), while "taster" facials made from fresh grape juice are Ft 4,800(€20). Treatments are for both men and women and packages are available. The hotel also offers more traditional spa treatments and pools.

Vinotherapy has recently became a popular trend in spa treatments around the world. Wine extracts from both green and purple grapes are rich in polyphenol, an anti-oxidant similar to vitamin C, and said to slow the aging process by restoring elasticity to the skin.
