Hungary to tighten disabled and drug regulations
Ferenc Kondorosi, the government commissioner in charge of the "Új Rend és Szabadság" (New Order and Freedom) program, announced that in the future, disabled parking permits would be issued by the National Experts of Rehabilitation Center, and not by doctors, privatbankar.hu reports.
A further aim of the new program would be to streamline legislation pertaining to car regulations and maintenance, with one digital document to replace the current three paper ones. Vehicles that have been totaled would now be legally recognized as such, while scrap yards would require permits.
Additionally, the program aims to fight pharmaceutical forgery, with a specific goal of fighting herbal remedies that do not contain the ingredients they promise.
Kondorosi added that as a result of Hungary's new "absolute zero tolerance" program for drinking and driving ,where individuals who return even a trace of alcohol through a breathalyzer test will see their licenses immediately suspended, January and February of 2008 saw 58 fewer fatal accidents than compared to a year before. Furthermore, there were 9.4% fewer injuries and 39% few accidents caused by drunk drivers.
