Hungary tightens airport security measures
In order to increase security at Budapest Ferihegy International Airport, the Hungarian government has mandated that staff working in the transit section of the airport undergo more vigorous checks before entering restricted areas, reports hirszerzo.hu.
"Due to the enhanced safety requirements at airports, stricter measures have been and will be installed at airports worldwide and in Hungary," a government spokesperson said in a statement announcing the changes. "The government of Hungary decided last week to restrict the entry of airport service staff to operational areas of the airport."
According to the announcement, the new rules affect the areas where passengers get on and off the planes, and where luggage is transported. In the future, these areas will be restricted to those staff members assigned to work there. In light of the new regulations, flight attendants will also go through a more vigorous security check to ensure that no unauthorized objects are taken on board departing aircraft.
