Hungary joins European bicycle route network
Hungary is joining the European cycle route network (EuroVelo), a project of the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF), by assigning sections of the cycle route throughout Hungary. The route crossing Hungary runs between the Atlantic Ocean and the Black Sea, reports Magyar Nemzet.
The ministry commissioner for bicycles (kerékpárügyi miniszteri biztos) began to assign the sections of the route in the presence of EP representatives, using special signposts developed for the EuroVelo project. The work will be completed by July, and the Hungarian section of the route will be 440 kilometers long, although it is not completely uninterrupted, so that in some cases cyclists will have to use public roads as well.
EuroVelo is currently made up of 12 routes, totaling over 66,000 kilometers.
