Hungarians in favour of Budapest Olympics
Most Hungarians would like to see Budapest host the Olympic Games, according to a survey by pollsters Szonda Ipsos, financed by the Budapest Olympic Movement.
Some 79% of respondents said bringing the Olympics to Budapest would be one of the greatest success stories in Hungarian history, and 77% said Budapest ought to bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Around 80% feel that the Olympics would boost tourism and would also benefit the provinces. Moreover, 72% of respondents said the Games would enhance Hungary's economic, political and cultural weight in the region, and the same number believe that the Olympics would create jobs.
Consultants PricewaterhouseCoopers recently concluded that Hungary would have to spend Ft 5,630 billion on the Olympic project before 2020.
