Hungarians are the biggest consumers of alcohol in the European Union, a study compiled by the British Institute for Alcohol Studies reveals. Drafted by the EU, the study shows that Hungarians over 15 years of age drink an average of nearly 20 litres of unadulterated alcohol per capita each year, much higher than the 13 litre EU average.

After Hungarians, the nationalities drinking the most alcoholic beverages are Lithuanians, Czechs, Latvians and Irish.
