An elderly woman awaiting surgery fell off the operating table last Thursday in the Kazincbarcika hospital, and died an hour later, reports hirtv.hu.

The woman was being prepared for surgery on a broken hip and the whole team of doctors and nurses was present when the incident occurred. It is still not known how she fell from the table, and both the hospital and police are examining the circumstances of the accident. The director of the hospital Erzsébet Trencsényi said that the woman had suffered strokes previously, and that it was likely that a new one caused her death. Stop.hu reports that the autopsy ended yesterday, and the histology results will probably show whether she died because of the damage caused by the accident or for other reasons.

A similar case was reported in Szolnok hospital on September 27 last year when another woman fell from the operating table. She died within in a week.
