Hungarian universities rated among world's best
The so-called "Shanghai List," complied for the fourth time this year, rates the University of Szeged and the Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest (ELTE) among the top 500 universities in the world, reports MTI.
University of Szeged press chief Gabriella Keczer said that both institutions are in the top three hundred. Harvard in the US leads, UK-based Cambridge is second, and another American university, Stanford, is third.
In the ranking of European universities, the two Hungarian institutions are in the best two hundred.
The study conducted by researchers of the Chinese Jiao Tong University examined thousands of higher education institutions around the world. The ranking is based on the ratio of teachers at the university and the number of articles they have published in magazines like Science and Nature, as well as how many of the school's gradutes and teachers have received Nobel or Field Awards.
