Hungarian Tourism kicks off "Year of Waters" campaign
A new Hungarian Tourism campaign entitled "Year of Waters" will put Lake Balaton in the spotlight in the month of May. Some 36 accommodation services, from campsites to hotels, and eight beaches have joined the campaign by offering discounts over the course of the month. Wine cellars around the lake will also welcome customers with open house days and discounts.
Although the campaign is primarily geared towards domestic tourism, Magyar Turizmus has also pleged to update the www.balaton-tourism.hu website and add more languages to the current Hungarian-English-German versions.
The Balaton had 1.2 million overnight guests last year, representing an 6.2% increase on 2007.
Following the May Balaton promotion, Lake Tisza in the country's east, and "natural spring waters" will be the subject of upcoming campaigns, which will wooing guests with a variety of offers and discounts.
