Hungarian team to compete in world motorcycling championship
Hungary's motorcycling world champion Gabor Talmacsi will compete in a Hungarian team, to be founded by Jorge Martinez of Spain, from the next season.
Talmacsi clinched the world champion's crown in the 125cc category last year as a member of the Aprilia team, also managed by Martinez. He was the seventh Aprilia rider to win the 125cc title.
Next year Talmacsi will shift to the 250cc category, hoping to repeat his feats.
Martinez hopes to win over Hungarian investors for the initiative and achieve similar successes he had with Aprilia.
Hungary will host a round of the MotoGP World Championship for at least five years starting in 2009. MotoGP has a strong fanbase in Hungary, further increased by the success of Talmacsi in the 2007 season.
The race will be held on a circuit near Lake Balaton (W Hungary) called Balatonring. The EUR 80 million facility will be built at Savoly, close to the FlyBalaton airport at Sarmellek and the M7 motorway, by the Spanish Sedesa group. Work is scheduled to start in September and planned to be completed in eight to ten months.
