Hungarian synagogue raiders caught within two hours
It took just two hours for police to arrest the two men in their 20s who had broken into the synagogue in Mád, northeast Hungary on Monday.
The burglars caused significant damage to the building and its contents - including the inner walls of the main sanctuary - while looking for cash and valuables. In the ensuing investigation, it emerged that the same men had two days earlier broken into a shop and a pub and had stolen electric cables in the neighborhood.
The pair confessed to the crime after detectives found a valuable prayer book in one of their apartments during a house search.
