Hungarian state railway begins tests of double-decker trains
Starting today, the Hungarian National Railway (MÁV) will begin testing double-decker trains for three weeks, reports hirszerzo.hu.
The trains are made by Bombardier-Transportation, a German-Canadian railway company.
MÁV is trying to determine if its passengers would be happy to use two-level trains, believe that the trains' use abroad does not guarantee their success in Hungary. It is planning to changing most of its trains by 2010. According to André Navarri, the president of Bombardier-Transportation, his company's vehicles would be suitable for use in Hungary, and it is also preparing to apply for a MÁV tender for locomotives.
"People like to travel comfortably, sitting down, and with a given number of passengers and a given length of trains, this is possible only if cars have two floors and a large capacitiy," Navarri explained.
