Hungarian state motorway manager applies new cameras
State motorway managing company ÁAK (Állami Autópályakezelő Zrt.) has bought another 12 license plate-reading cameras which can be used in cars, writes vg.hu.
As ÁAK spokesperson András Winkler-Virág said, the extension of the surveillance system was necessary because highway charges have been extended to 42 roads since last April, and there are 71 kilometers of new roads which need to be monitored as well.
The company already has 11 cameras attached to the overpasses over motorways. These mobile cameras are supposed to increase the effectiveness of the control system. The ratio of cheaters decreased to 2 to 3% during this year from last year's 3 to 3.5% and the 4 to 4.5% of 2005.
