Hungarian Railways to improve station information systems
Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) has called a Ft 250,000 (€990,650) tender to improve passenger information. MÁV is planning to renew passenger information monitors, the clock networks, speakers and speaker systems, and more than 250 posts supporting speakers at 40 stations.
The project would provide information systems for stations where such technology has never been implemented. The contract with the company winning the tender will be signed in December.
The development of the passenger information systems is much needed at MÁV stations. Eastern (Keleti) Station, for example, very often indicates the platform a train will leave from only minutes before the departure, causing chaos and confusion among passengers.
As a continuation of these renovation works, MÁV is also planning to upgrade information systems at 120 more stations in the coming years. It has also pledged to clean up stations, another serious flaw in the current service.
