Hungarian railways to reintroduce car transportation
The Hungarian state railways plans to launch trains which can transport cars, reports Népszabadság. One such train was supposed to be launched this summer between Budapest and Thessaloniki, but it was not launched because one of the involved railway companies quit the plan.
Trains able to transport cars used to depart from Keleti pályaudvar a few years ago but the service was terminated as traveling by plane became cheaper. Now with the higher fuel prices and rising plane ticket prices, MÁV feels competitive enough again to re-introduce the service, but only beginning with next summer.
