Hungarian state President László Sólyom had a private audience with Pope Benedict XVI on Monday, writes mno.hu.
The Pope welcomed the president into his office, and the two had a private discussion at the Pope's desk, in German. According to protocol, the meeting was supposed to last for 20 minutes, but lasted close to half an hour.
"Customarily, no one gives a statement about their meeting with the Pope," said Sólyom. "All I can say, however, is that the Pope's personality and outstanding awareness of Central European and Hungarian affairs made a great impression on me."
The Pope was presented with an antique book, and the president received three Papal coins.
