Hungarian police arrest money forgers
Police in Budapest have arrested three men suspected of operating one of the biggest money forgeries of the past few years, according to a report on the police headquarters' website on Wednesday.
The men, Hungarian citizens, are charged with forging and putting into circulation 10,000 forint notes, of which the National Bank of Hungary has withdrawn 2,900.
Police seized forgeries and sophisticated equipment from a house located outside of the capital. Paper for the banknotes containing watermarks and imitation hologram strips were also confiscated.
Also among the haul were 17 million forints (EUR 60,000) worth of monthly passes for public transport, trains and long-distance buses, according to the report.
The suspects have been placed in preliminary custody.
