Hungarian PM egged again by anti-government protesters
Hungary's Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány hid behind umbrellas when anti-government protesters threw eggs and stones at him at a demonstration organized by the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) in Budapest Wednesday, reports origo.hu.
The PM's guard held up large, black umbrellas as a few dozen angry protesters chanted "Gyurcsány, get lost!" and threw eggs and stones from behind the railing by the Danube River embankment. Only a photographer was hit.
The Government Guard protected the PM with umbrellas at a similar incident on March 15.
The protesters, holding the Árpád-striped flags now associated with far-right groups, crashed what was meant to be a peaceful, torchlight demonstration against racism on Pest's lower embankment. Organizers of the event also wanted to commemorate the victims of Nazi terror in Hungary.
Several attendees of the MSZP event shouted "Shut up, rotten fascist gang!" in response to the egg throwers.
The anti-government protesters also disturbed Gyurcsány's speech with constant whistling and shouting.
"It starts with whistling and turning away, and continues with murders, and the shame remains," the PM said in response.
Gyurcsány also said: "We keep this country together, and we don't let the raging lies rule. Because we are the majority." His supporters replied with: "We are not afraid!"
