Hungarian party preferences unchanged amidst voter apathy
Fidesz has the backing of 58% of decided voters, with the Socialists on 30%, according to a Szonda Ipsos poll which questioned 1,500 adults between July 14 and 22. Among the adult population Fidesz enjoyed 31% support, the Socialists 19%, the Democratic Forum 3% and the Free Democrats 2%. The Christian Democrats and MIÉP both had 1% support, while 41% were undecided or would not vote.
Meanwhile a Medián poll found that 38% would vote for Fidesz and 21% for the Socialists. Some 72% of Fidesz supporters would turn up to vote, while only 62% of Socialist supporters would cast their ballot.
Regarding the Fidesz-initiated referendum, 77% of the center-right party's supporters would vote, but only 33% of Socialist Party followers. The overall turnout would be 48%. The popularity of politicians did not really change from June to July, except for that of Environment Minister Gábor Fodor, whose rating rose 8 points to 48, HVG reported.
