Hungarian hammer thrower Krisztián Pars was awarded a silver medal from the Beijing Olympics on Thursday after the International Olympic Committee disqualified the second- and third-placed contestants, both from Belarus, and stripped them of their medals.

Pars, who was originally fourth, has now been named silver medal winner.

The two Belarus athletes had testosterone levels exceeding permitted limits on the day of the hammer throw final on August 17 and were unable to give an adequate explanation. Pars said a fair decision was made, although he would have been more pleased to have beaten the two in the arena.
