Controversy over alleged anti-Semitism at historicial exhibition
"The National History Memorial Park in Ópusztaszer, Csongrád county, fully condemns the anti-Semitic note: 'He saved Jews and would also have saved Hungarians if the Jews had let him,' displayed under the portrait of Cardinal Mindszenty at an exhibition organised in the venue by the World Association of Hungarians, and we have asked them to remove it," park lawyer Károly Czifra said.
"The innocent text under the portrait reflects the truth as I know it to be," exhibition organiser and honorary chairman of the World Association of Hungarians Sándor Rácz said. Referring to the Jewish origins of Communist leader Mátyás Rákosi, he posed the question "who ordered to the cardinal to be taken to Andrássy 60? Who tortured him? If these questions are answered accurately and truly then the reader can understand the text under the portrait."
