Hungarian MPs pass bill on digital broadcasting
Parliament by a vast majority amended the act on digital broadcasting on Monday to make the new technology predominant by 2012. Accordingly Hungary can switch from analogue terrestrial transmissions to the most modern digital broadcasting in line with its EU obligations.
As part of the transition, each broadcaster will have the option to transmit five to ten television channels and other supplementary services using the smae bandwidth taken up by one analog channel.
In other legislation, Parliament amended regulations to exempt members of the armed forces, law enforcement bodies and the National Ambulance service from paying medical visiting fees from July 1 for treatment of injuries suffered while on duty.
Those who donate blood at least 30 times a year will also be exempt, as will children when they go to consult physicians.
