Motorboat racer János Feil, 52, died on Sunday when he smashed his motorboat into an iron pontoon at the Boretto, Italy opening race of the European Championships series.

Feil, who was also president of the national motorboat federation, had apparently fainted, as he made no effort to avoid the pontoon. He was resuscitated on the spot but died later in hospital.
