Hungarian kindergartens facing children shortage
The consequences of the decrease in Hungary's population are becoming painfully tangible as many kindergartens, like the one in Bucsu (Vas County), are on the edge of closure, with only a handful of children attending, reports Kossuth Rádió.
The kindergarten of Bucsu has only eight children this year, while costing the local government Ft 9 million (€36,000) to maintain, which means more than Ft 1 million per child. They considered closing it last year, but decided to wait for a year. The situation is not expected to improve as there will not be more children of kindergarten age in the next two years. The fate of the kindergarten is uncertain at best.
