Hungary's insurers have published their 2009 offers for compulsory car insurance, reports hirszerzo.hu. Drivers have until December 1 to decide if they wanted to switch to a different insurer and can sign a new contract until the last day of the year.

Getting the insurance online is increasingly popular, and several insurers offer discounts for clients who use this method. It is expected that this year, every fourth driver will use online calculators to select the best offer for them.

There are two new insurers to choose this year, MKB Biztosító and Waberer's, which is expected to increase competition.

Following the bankruptcy of MÁV Biztosító - which offered cut-rate premium prices - insurers are making sure to have adequate reserves available, said Generali-Providencia Managing Director László Ilics. He predicts fees will be more "professionally founded" and differences between them will be smaller.
