Hungarian inventors have taken home several awards from a prestigious innovation and trade fair held in Nuremberg earlier this month.

According to a report on portal privatbankar.hu, members of the association of Hungarian Inventors presented 17 inventions at the IENA ("Ideen – Erfindungen – Naeuheiten") international trade fair of product innovations, winning a gold medal, three silvers and two bronze medals, as well as four "special" awards. The fair was held for the 59th time this Nov. 1-4, and featured more than 800 new inventions from 34 countries.

The grand prize was won by Andor Mikola for a waste processing system that can be used on buses. Meanwhile, a new biodiesel fuel invented by János Thész, Béla Boros and Zoltán Király attracted the most attention from businesspeople attending the fair.

The fair corresponded with the second "regional semifinals" of the International Federation of Inventors' Associations (IFIA). Of the 46 applicants 37 were sent on to the finals, which will be held in October 2008 in China. The panel of judges was headed by Tivadar Lippényi, vice president of Hungary's National Research and Technology Office, and the seven Hungarian inventions that made it to the finals were the most from any participating country.
