The Hungarian government will spend over Ft 100 billion (roughly €400 million) on integrating the country's Roma (Gypsy) minority, Social Minister Mónika Lamperth announced on Wednesday, writes index.hu.

Over the next two years, Ft 7.5 billion will be spent on health care programs that help the Roma find employment, for example as nurses. In addition, mobile health screening stations will be established for Ft 1.5 billion.

Ft 42 billion will be allocated for labor market integration, while small and middle-sized businesses will be able to apply for grants totaling Ft 31 billion for improving employment.

More than Ft 11 billion will be spent in the area of public education integration, including Ft 500 million for providing free meals to elementary school students in the upper four grades, as well as those from families that regularly receive subsidies for the care of their children.

Plans also include the establishment of a national Roma cultural center in Budapest.
