Hungarian-Austrian commission targets river pollution
Pollution emitted by tanneries in Austria is significantly contaminating the Rába river, a Hungarian-Austrian commission declared on Tuesday following a comprehensive study of the quality of the river.
At Hungary’s initiative, experts from the two countries took samples in 52 locations in July and tested them.
The commission called for continuation of a plan aimed at improving the ecological state of the Rába, as a result of which the water quality could improve considerably by next year.
This was the first cross-border research project on the Rába.
