Hundreds hospitalized as freezing rain covers Hungary
Freezing rain and sleet on roads paralysed traffic and caused serious accidents in Hungary and several European countries at the weekend. Ambulances were called out to 450 accidents throughout the country, while fire-fighters were alerted more than 30 times to cars sliding into roadside ditches, mostly in north and west Transdanubia and in Jász county in central Hungary.
Due to the icing over of shunting systems, trains to and from Budapest's Keleti train station were 30-40 minutes late, with delays mainly affecting trains to Miskolc, Szolnok and Komárom. Some bus services were several hours late due to icy roads.
