Holocaust remembered in NE Hungarian city
A tribute to local Holocaust victims was held at Nyíregyháza at the weekend. Over 17,000 Jews were deported from the town and its environs during World War II.
Speaking at a memorial located in the war-time ghetto, college assistant professor József Sallai recalled the horrors of 64 years ago. "The Holocaust is an eternal reminder impelling all to act and prevent," he said.
Officials from the Socialist Party, Fidesz and the Christian Democrats laid wreaths at a memorial.
