Historic warship to be inaugurated on Aug 20 national holiday
Hungary's historic warship Lajta Monitor, built in 1871, will be inaugurated after a recent revamp at this year's national holiday on August 20, Minister of Defence Csaba Hende said on Friday.
The nearly 130-year-old ship has been revamped by the Institute and Museum of Military History with the help of European Union funding, Hende said.
The ship was built during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and it was used during WWI. After the Trianon treaty, the ship was used as a dredger. The vessel received protected status by the History of Military History in 1993.
The warship's inauguration ceremony will be held on the River Danube by the Parliament building on August 20.
