Ten children and eight adults have contracted the highly contagious hepatitis A virus in the southern city of Pécs and nearby Kaposvár, hirtv.hu writes.

Patients complained of vomiting and abdominal cramps. The first two infected children were taken to the hospital two weeks ago, and 22 of their family members were vaccinated. Authorities hoped that the outbreak was stopped, but further infections have been reported in recent days.

The incubation period of the illness can be as long as two months. The cause of the infection is yet to be found.
