Gunman critically injures security guard in East Hungarian town
An unidentified gunman shot and critically wounded a security guard as the latter brought out the day's sales returns from the Malompark shopping centre in Debrecen Monday evening. The guard's colleagues prevented the robber from running away with the satchel full of cash.
The wounded 46-year-old was rushed to hospital with critical injuries to several internal organs. Doctors performed a two-hour operation on him Monday night. Hospital spokesman János Szentgyörgyi said the man's condition had stabilised but that his life was still in danger.
Police launched a large-scale hunt to catch the would-be robber, and have offered a Ft 500,000 reward to anyone providing information about his whereabouts.
