For the first time in the past 15 years, a guereza monkey was recently born in Hungary, the zoo of Miskolc in northeast Hungary reported on Monday.

The mother named Zsuzsa arrived in Miskolc from the zoo of Szeged in southern Hungary in 2002. She was born there fifteen years ago. The father arrived from a Slovak zoo in 2006 and their offspring was born on December 28.

The zoo of Miskolc said that the breeding of guerezas in captivity is rather unique, considering that hardly two dozens of guereza monkeys were born throughout the whole of Europe last year.

The mantled guereza, or Abyssinan black-and-white colobus, is a native to Central Africa and lives in groups of 8-15. Grown-ups have impressive black and white fur. The young ones are born all white and stay that way for 2-3 months, which helps them get special attention within the group.
