Ground service personnel stage strike at Budapest airport
Ground service personnel staged a three-hour strike at Budapest's Ferihegy airport between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, because they are not satisfied with the amount of a proposed wage hike, writes radio.hu.
While the airport's management company proposed raising wages by 1%, the workers would like a 18% hike. The two sides did not come closer together during negotiations on Tuesday, so 100 members of the ground service personnel decided to go on strike, said Attila Csorba, chairman of the Independent Trade Union of Air Traffic Workers (Légiközlekedési Dolgozók Független Szakszervezete). Negotiations will continue.
The strike affected 10 arriving and 12 departing flights. Passengers, including many foreigners, waited patiently for service to resume. A flight from London arrived 40 minutes late, and took off at 9:30 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. Check-in for flights departing at 8 p.m. was undisturbed.
A flight from Manchester landed two hours late, at 8 p.m. instead of 6 p.m., but it later turned out that the reason was unrelated to the strike.
