Graffiti to be punished by imprisonment
People destroying surfaces with graffiti will face imprisonment of up to one year from January under an amendment passed by Hungary's parliament on Monday.
The amendment to the Penal Code, initiated by the ruling Fidesz party, seeks to deter people from making graffiti, an activity which has caused increasing damage to municipalities and private owners in recent years.
Parliament has also toughened punishment for the violation of custody regulations.
