Gov't plans Internet blacklist of indebted speeders
The government is planning to take more serious sanctions against those who do not pay speeding fines, writes atv.hu. Speeding is one of the most common infringements, with 100,000 people failing to pay fines within 30 days every year.
According to the proposal made by justice minister Tibor Draskovics, the names of people who fail to pay any sort of fines would be posted on the Internet as a form of public humiliation. If the fine is higher than Ft 30,000 (€124), a mortgage will be enforced on the individual's house or car five days after the 30-day deadline. If the person fails to pay for other 90 days, the courts will be entitled to send them to jail. A central database would be completed by 2010 to keep the courts up to date with repeat offenders.
