Government to propose further tightening of traffic regulations
The government is discussing tightening Hungary's traffic regulations further, reports mr1-kossuth.hu.
State secretary Ferenc Kondorosi says that besides stricter control over local traffic regulations by the central government, patrols by policemen and even units from the country's "civil guards" should patrol dangerous sections of road.
Meanwhile, the construction of "islands" in the middle of busy roads as well as zebra crossing with traffic lights should be stepped up, he said.
It is also possible that a general speed limit of only 30 km/h at such crossings would be enacted.
Kondorosi added that while several recent tragedies had spurred the government to action, regulations should not be made in a moment of "passion."
In Pécs, a grandmother and her baby grandchild were hit and killed about two weeks ago, and a few days later a young man perished in a hit-and-run accident.
