More than a thousand restaurants will be offering half-price food and drink to guests as part of the annual "Gluttonous Thursday" (Torkos Csütörtök) event to be held all day tomorrow. This year, Fitness Friday is attached to the promotion campaign - gyms will be halving their prices the following day.

The Hungarian Tourist Office promotion is designed to promote dining out among Hungarians. According to market researchers GfK Hungária, some 80% of Hungarians see eating in restaurants as an unnecessary expense. Only 20% would go to restaurants every day if they had enough money. In practice only 5% of Hungarians often go to restaurants, 45% go occasionally and 50% never go.

Meanwhile, the discount table reservation website www.fapadosetterem.hu, which serves 47 restaurants, yesterday gave its Gourmand Guest award to Krisztián Inczédy, who reserved 180 tables in 2007.
