The monumental painting "Honfoglalás" ("Settlement") by Róbert Corvus-Kora was completed in 1996, for the 1100th anniversary of the most important event in Hungarian history. The artist is now working on a painting of King Matthias.

Corvus-Kora is dedicating thousands of work hours to this new giant painting spanning 45 square meters. He decided two years ago to celebrate the 550th anniversary of Matthias's coronation with a giant painting and finished the sketches last year. He also consulted with archaeologists and historians in order to make the illustration of Matthias's procession to Buda as authentic as possible.

The painting occupies a wall in the biggest hall of the Lökösháza community center. It is nine meters long and five meters wide, and presents 60 life-sized people besides the king. He expressed his fascination with such monumental paintings as it gives the impression that the viewer is among the figures.

The painting will be completed in February, and will probably tour the country during the year, before touring overseas.
