Gas consumers to receive overpayment rebates
The government has changed a regulation pertaining to natural gas utilities' collection of estimated payments for household gas usage, allowing consumers to receive cash rebates for overpayments starting in April, writes napi.hu.
According to current regulations, gas providers are not obliged to refund overpayments by households. From April 1, however, consumers will have the option to ask for a refund, which will be payable within eight days, or choose to ask for a lower flat rate for the next months if the service provider bills them for more than what they consumed.
Opposition MP Péter Ágh said that the government's motive for changing the regulation was that it is "ashamed." Contrary to election promises in 2006, the consumer price of gas was raised and the subsidy system "destroyed," as a result of which every consumer pays drastically more for gas than last year, Ágh added.
