Ft 1 million reward for capture of Budapest tram vandal
Mayor Gábor Demszky will pay out a Ft 1 million reward to a former member of a graffiti gang who told police the name of the minor who caused Ft 3 million in damage by applying acid-based paint to a new Combino tram on August 26.
Several other suspects were caught in Törökbálint, as police conducted four simultaneous raids on Tuesday. Demszky was present at the police press briefing.
The minor admitted later that he had painted one of the Combino trams with an acid-like paint. His older brother was part of a graffiti gang and he wanted to continue the "family tradition" by placing a graffiti "calling card" on a surface where no one had ever done anything like that before. He said he later regretted his act.
The Combino trams will run along the Nagykörút only after the afternoon rush hours, with security guards posted on board.
