Forest fire ravages 1,000 hectares in southern Hungary
Forests caught fire in Bács-Kiskun County Wednesday morning which burned on an area of 1,000 hectares and a 17-kilometer stretch of land between Kéleshalom and Kunfehértó near Kiskunhalas. Inhabited areas were not endangered. The flames were contained by the evening and nobody was injured.
The fire spread quickly in the 50 to 90 km/h wind, and 80 firefighters and 50 volunteers were needed to stop it by 9 p.m., said János Geiger, head of the county's disaster defence directorate.
