FlyBalaton Airport, located in the western town of Sármellék, will continue to host Ryanair flights to London during the winter season, the airport's marketing manager, Lajos Palkó, announced on Wednesday.

From the end of October, when the Irish budget airline switches to its winter timetable, it will operate three weekly flights to London's Stansted airport from Sármellék, which is close to Lake Balaton. Flights to Frankfurt-Hahn will not operate during the winter but will restart in spring. Earlier, the airline had said it would only run flights into Sármellék over the summer season.

According to Palkó, Ryanair will start flights to more destinations starting next spring, and other budget airlines are likely to appear. It is expected that there will be one or two flights from Scandinavia, and connections with Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Zürich are also planned.

Palkó also said that FlyBalaton had made an offer to Sky Europe, the Bratislava-based budget airline that is currently winding down its Budapest hub, to have Sky use FlyBalaton, which offers landing fees that are much lower than those at Budapest's Ferihegy Airport.
