FlyBalaton airport in Sármellék at the western end of Lake Balaton reopened on Saturday after a five-month winter break.

The first arrival was a Lufthansa flight from Düsseldorf. Lufthansa will fly also from Hamburg and Frankfurt three times per week. Negotiations with Ryanair, which generated the most traffic last year, are ongoing.

This year the airport plans to exceed 2008 passenger numbers of over 110,000, said Jonathan Moore, head of airport manager Cape Clear Aviation.
