Flights to Hungary's Lake Balaton airport near capacity
Flights by German airline Lufthansa between two German cities and the small airport serving Hungary's Lake Balaton were 92% full two weeks before launch of the new routes. The results are well above expectations, reports new portal mfor.hu.
Starting on April 14, Lufthansa will operate two flights on Saturdays between the Sármellék FlyBalaton airport and Hamburg and Düsseldorf. The service will be expanded this summer to include Frankfurt.
According to mfor.hu, the strong interest in the flights is from both individual travelers, as well as through packages booked via agency Mutsch Ungarn Reisen.
The FlyBalaton airport is also used by budget airline Ryanair, which operates flights to London and Frankfurt, and Hungarian flag carrier Malév, which has flown to Stuttgart from Sármellék since the end of March and will begin serving Berlin at the end of June. The German capital is also being served by discount carrier Germanwings, while Swiss Helvetic Airways will operate flights to Zürich during the summer months.
