Five Combino trams vandalized in Budapest
Budapest transport company BKV turned to the police after unknown perpetrators vandalized five Combino trams on the weekend, index.hu reports.
The trams had been withdrawn from traffic for several weeks after repeated breakdowns and started running again on Saturday. The test runs were successful, but five vehicles were vandalized, BKV announced on Monday.
Most damage was made to windows, which were scratched or corrosive liquid was poured on them. The outside of the vehicles were also scratched.
BKV says that fixing the damage is extremely costly. Polishing one window costs Ft 100,000 (€362) and is not always successful. Replacement of a side window costs Ft 200,000 (€724), while a windshield costs Ft 900,000 (€3,258).
